In middle school, I was always pretty good at playing with computers but it seemed mostly like a strange hobby. I took most things apart (typically couldn't put them back together) and was left with boxes of parts around my room that I thought were just sort of cool. (BTW, those parts are still in my room.) Computer science at my middle school was just a class for learning to TYPE which was incredibly boring. In high school we had a single class in Java. Thankfully my parents sent me to science camps and one computer camp but I didn't really get a feel for what computer science was. I was debating between majoring in Physics and Computer Science at the end of my senior year. I chose computer science mainly because of a good book I read ( Gödel, Escher, Bach ), thanks to my cousin. I had played around with making websites and done some really simple programming, and owned a library of books on various programming languages, but honestly I didn't really understand what computer science was. When I got to college I found that lots of people were there by chance. All the smart kids had enjoyed at least some math or science but nobody really understood what computer science was. So, that's why this site was created. If any part of this resonates with you, or you're simply curious in the least bit for your own reasons, I hope you find this site useful. Basic setup: On the left you should see links for different disciplines within computer science. These are links and references to where you can learn more. I will be slowly growing this website's contents with assistance from other graduate students around the country, so check back for updates, but more importantly, if YOU find anything you feel would be useful to include here, PLEASE email me ybisk@yo-tech.com and I will get it up here immediately.
